Sbc stumbles on acceleration

When engine speed reaches about 2900 rpm, the engine becomes unhappy and the tailpipes light up with loud popping noises. This problem occurs at part throttle either under slight acceleration or when keeping the car at a constant speed over 2900 rpm. Harder acceleration and any deceleration do not cause the stumbling. If your car or truck is equipped with a Holley four barrel carburetor and stumbles upon acceleration, more than likely the carburetor needs an adjustment to the accelerator pump assembly. This assembly delivers an initial shot of fuel in the right amount, and duration, to provide crisp throttle response right off idle. Bog from a stop is virtually always (and generally erroneously) diagnosed as a faulty accelerator pump (see the section on “accelerator pumps” for testing). Most modern carburetors are designed to function with roughly 0.020 (20 thousanths) clearance between the center of the throttle plate edge, and the throttle body at a point equidistant from the throttle shaft bearing. Issue: When cruising, I have a vacuum gauge hooked up to manifold vacuum and whenever I am under load or lightly accelerating, around 11" to 10" of vacuum it surges a little but not terribly then 9" to 8" of vacuum it stumbles, sputters, and almost sounds like it goes completely lean if not all air at that point then after that smooth as glass. To troubleshoot whether the fuel filter is the issue, complete the following steps: Step 1: Physically inspect the fuel filter. Divide that by 180 (to get a distance for every 2 degrees) which will come to 0.140-inch. The closest fraction is 9/64. Start with a 0 line and if we multiply 10 X 0.140-inch this would be 1.40 inches which would equal 20 degrees (10 times 2 degrees). This means that one inch equals 0.70-inch, so 30 degrees would equal 2.1 inches.
